Christian Values at St Peter’s CE Academy, Alton
The children at St Peter’s chose the core values for our school.
They selected the values of love, friendship and respect. These are values that the children, staff and local community feel are important to them. During our Open Door event in St Peter’s Church, we made stained glass windows for our school garden representing each of these values.
The children enjoy reading stories from the Bible that demonstrate our core values. Their favourites stories linked to our values are:
- Love – Peter and John heal the lame man Acts 3
- Friendship – Miraculous Catch of Fish and Peter called to be Jesus’ friend Luke 5:1-11
- Respect – Jesus washes his disciples’ feet – John 13:1-17
During our celebration assembly on a Friday values certificates are awarded. These might be given to children, staff, or anyone within our school community. Children and staff can nominate anyone who they feel has shown our core values.
The children demonstrate our values constantly. A parent of a nursery child commented, “My daughter loves having the older children look after her and help her. The children all really care about one another.”
A child in year 2 said, “We feel like one big family who are all friends. We all look out for each other. I feel lucky to be at this school!”
Values afternoon
The children worked in their coloured teams to complete activities relating to our school values.
Love – They read the story Peter healing the lame man. The children made words clouds on hearts all about love.
Friendship – They read the story The miraculous catch of fish. The children decorated fish for a friendship display and then made friendship bracelets to keep.
Respect – They read the story of Jesus washing the disciples feet. The children decorated an outline of a person and talked about respecting everyone. They also acted out washing the disciples feet.
We wrote our own poems about our values:
As a remark of respect, we made our own poppy display to commemorate Remembrance Day 2020.
