Hoglets
The children enjoyed taking part in a Hoglets workshop. They learnt all about hedgehogs and the problems they face through a fun game. They got to meet Harry, a rescued hedgehog from British Wildlife Rescue Centre. Class 2 and 3 children constructed a ‘hedgehog friendly’ housing estate with their incredible imaginations and a pile of Lego! Class 1 children created their own hedgehog made from clay.
Science Day
As part of her work with the Galapagos Conservation Trust, Miss Langford shared their new book with us before it goes to print! ‘Tessa the Giant Tortoise: A Galapagos Journey,’ tells the story of a giant tortoise as she undertakes her annual migration on the Galapagos Islands. By joining Tessa the children learnt and reflected on the positive relationship they can have with nature through everyday environmentally friendly actions. Many exciting activities were planned for the day and the children came to school dressed as an explorer, a tortoise or in tortoise colours!
Sponsored Run
The School Council organised a sponsored run to raise money for new playground equipment to be used at break times and lunch times. A tremendous £1079.50 (plus gift aid) was raised. Thank you to a grandparent (she knows who she is!) for supporting the School Council with the organisation and motivating all the children!
Apedale Heritage Centre
To complement their topic on Lord Shaftesbury, the children in Key Stage 2 visited Apedale Heritage Centre. They went down a mine to see what it was like for children in Victorian times.
World Book Day 2022
Our theme this year was Julia Donaldson. We focussed on ‘Jack and The Flum Flum Tree’. The children came to school dressed as a character from their favourite book. They took part in a picture quiz and won prizes for their team.
Pancake Day
On Pancake Day we were lucky enough to eat delicious freshly made pancakes! We talked about why we were eating them, how they were made and our favourite toppings!
Number Day
We had lots of fun doing lots of different activities on Number Day!
Class 1 did a number hunt and then did lots of exciting activities all linked to the theme of Chinese New Year. This included putting the animals in order and learning to understand ordinal numbers – 1st, 2nd, 3rd and so on.
Class 2 played a number track game, snakes and ladders, number square challenge and addition football. This was loads of fun with lots of competition!
Class 3 played lots of different number games. They played Yahtzee, battleships and four in a row. They decorated their favourite number and wrote number sentences about that number.
Roman Feast
To finish our History topic work on ‘What we have learnt from the past?’ we held a Roman Feast! We dressed in togas and enjoyed a range of foods including figs, cheese, grapes, honey cake and lentil casserole.
Roman Soldier
The children in Key Stage 2 were ‘virtually’ visited by a Roman Soldier in connection with their topic this half term.
Time Travel
To start our topic this term which is based on ‘What we have learned from the past?’ we had a mysterious visitor who left behind muddy footprints and a range of costumes and artefacts. The children had a great time investigating where the items had come from!
KS2 – DT Project
The children in Years 3 and 4 invented their own chocolate bars. This involved naming their own bar, designing their packaging and logo. They created, made and evaluated their own recipe.
Poet from the Peaks!
Poet From the Peaks, Andy Tooze, inspired the children to write and perform their own amazing poems!
