24 Ways to Give Back
Throughout their time at St Peter’s children engage with our ’24 Ways to Give Back’ project. For each of the years that they are with us they participate in four ‘Giving Back’ themes. These range from donating items to a foodbank, looking after the environment in a variety of ways, making cards for those in hospital and planning and carrying out fundraising for causes that are important to the children, as well as lots more exciting projects.
We launched the initiative with a focus on kindness. Children have taken a bingo sheet home that contains lots of ideas for ways in which they can show their kindness. They have made a display in the entrance to the school that shows how they can show kindness for others. They have painted kindness rocks to distribute around the community and the school grounds. We are looking forward to a talk from ‘Animal Aid’ where we will learn more about showing kindness to animals. The children will undertake activities to show kindness to the planet.
Toilet Twinning
Working alongside our Christian youth worker we have decided this year to raise money for a toilet twinning charity. Jordan came and worked with Classes 2 and 3. They looked at the different types of toilets in places like Kenya and Pakistan. They then completed a class quiz looking at statistics about toilets around the world. They found out that 26% of the population are without a toilet. They then listened to Issai’s story who was a woman who lived at a refugee camp who told us about the condition of the toilets and how sickness was high due to the unsanitary conditions. She then told us how much the charity had changed their lives by building a toilet block at the campsite, they had reported less sickness and the smell had improved around camp. As a class they discussed how they would feel if they had to go to one of these toilets. Then they came up with ideas to help people around the world to have access to a toilet. They found out that it only costs £60 to build a toilet for a community. To help raise money for this charity we have had non-uniform days and we held a cake sale where we sold ‘poo’ cakes that we had decorated in school.
Burton Community
We welcomed guests from Burton to our beautiful village. Our School Council took them on a walk, pointing out interesting sites. They were particularly fascinated in the church and castle. The children and adults all enjoyed getting to know each other. We walked to school where the children served homemade cakes and drinks.
Kenya Project
The children spent time learning about poverty and some of the causes of it. Through our Christian youth worker we made a connection with the One by One school in Kenya.
Children learnt about what it is like to live in Kenya. The children decided that as a federation they wanted to raise £600 which would pay for a pupil to attend the school for a year. The school supports children who have previously at risk of starvation, child labour and even torture. Our school council organised a ‘Cake off’ where children paid to enter cakes in a competition. The cakes were then sold with all proceeds going to the One by One school.
Cheadle and District Foodbank
A member of the Cheadle foodbank came to talk to the children about how the foodbank works and how we can support it.
We donated over 30 Advent calendars to the foodbank.
Well in Nepal
The children at St Peter’s are proud to have worked alongside the other Saints Academies schools to raise enough money for a well in a village in Nepal. Because of this the people who live in the village can access clean water. Our School Council arranged non uniform days and cake sales which raised £150 towards the well.
Feed the Hungry
We are supporting Feed the Hungry, a Christian based charity, which helps children in the poorest areas of the world by sending food packages. The children at St Peter’s worked incredibly hard alongside the Saints Academies family to achieve a target of £260 to fund one thousand meal packages to be sent to Kenya. As part of our fundraising efforts we had a sponsored obstacle course.

The School Council organised a wacky hair, non uniform day and activities to raise funds for Children in Need.
