Curriculum and Assessment
The curriculum has been planned to link together the different subject areas and objectives for each year group into themes. We know that children learn best when they can make connections between different areas of their learning and this approach makes subjects more relevant and motivating for them. The termly overview of the planned themes for each year group can be accessed via the links below. Staff have planned key objectives and questions for each of the topic themes and these will be covered with the children using a range of carefully planned and differentiated teaching and learning activities.
Our ethos and values are based upon Christian values. At St Peter’s CE Academy, Alton we aim to prepare our children to become good citizens of the future.Through our curriculum we teach British values and how to celebrate diversity. We aim to raise their awareness of radicalisation and extremist views, whatever the source. We have adopted the principles and advice found in Keeping Children Safe in Education and the 2011 Prevent Strategy. These are incorporated into our school policy on tackling extremism.
The staff use a hybrid system of assessment based on NAHTs Commission of Assessment principles and other assessment models. We have an assessment and tracking scheme that meets the needs of our academy and enables staff to identify next steps for pupils, helps us report clearly to parents and enables effective tracking of progress across the year.
